What is it?

I've been collecting unusual objects for quite a while, and several years ago I started posting them on this site as puzzles for visitors to figure out what they are. Most of the items are mine but a few belong to others, if you aren't interested in tools there are plenty of other type objects that have also been posted.

For first time visitors I recommend this archive for a wide variety of some of my best pieces.

  • I like it just the way it is.
This is still Rob's game and I'm always happy to participate.
Maybe Rob should only post at a specific time each week. That way we can all set our alarm clocks and have at it.

  • >#496 A stop collar for 1/4" drill bit.

    Yes

    >...should only post at a specific time each week. That way we can all set our alarm clocks and have at it.

I generally post at 4:30 am EST, before I go to work, but I can't guarantee that every week. In my next post I probably will ask for just one guess per person per day, to possibly get more people involved. I'm not overly concerned about it one way or the other, but we'll see how that goes for a few weeks.

  • 499 is a tool used by dock workers.
It was used to stow/unload certain cargo inside a ship.

I couldn't find anything on the web, any idea what it was called or where I could verify this?

  • My taste is to wait until the weekend and see what others have named. Then I research the rest and either name them or make an, hopefully, intelligent guess. My hope is that with the new rules, new visitors will be less intimidated. The more the merrier.

  • >499 Tool used in unloading or moving burlap wrapped bales...

I still haven't found another one like it, but this sounds like it would be the right answer.
